Good looks should survive a full day's packing. Here's how our Backpack V2 compares with Vessel's PrimeX DXR, and why we built ours around the things you carry alongside your racquets.

The Verdict

Our view: start with what goes inside

A clean exterior works harder when the interior has a plan.

Our pick Our Backpack V2 for a full work-and-tennis day

We like a tennis backpack that belongs at your desk as comfortably as it belongs beside the court. Our Backpack V2 gives your computer, shoes and refreshments dedicated spaces while keeping the outside understated. Vessel's PrimeX DXR has an attractive technical finish and a different way of arranging smaller gear. Neither look wins on taste alone. Our reason to choose the Backpack V2 is the everyday load it was designed to organize.

Which ADV and Vessel backpacks are we comparing?

Our Tennis Backpack V2 is $249.95. Vessel's current tennis-backpack collection lists the PrimeX DXR Tennis Backpack at $245, shown as sold out when we checked on September 15, 2026. Older comparisons may reference the Baseline backpack; that's a different model. Availability can change, so confirm it before making plans around an order.

We compared our specifications with Vessel's published product details. These are listed US prices before tax, and this article explains our design choices alongside the documented differences. We haven't carried out a side-by-side comfort or abrasion test. Looking at a fabric's name can't answer those questions.

The useful question is what happens after you fill the bag. A computer and two racquets headed to an evening match make different demands than one racquet and a towel. Start there.

Why our backpack keeps the outside simple

Best for carrying work gear and a full tennis load together

During our original bag development, player and coach surveys pointed us toward neutral exteriors with brighter interiors and accents. We also chose restrained, reflective branding because we didn't want your bag to become a walking advertisement. Those decisions carried into the matching backpack. Our founder, Lavie, explains them in the story behind our bags.

There's a practical side to that contrast. Dark clothing and little accessories are easier to distinguish against a bright lining than against more dark fabric. Outside, the quieter design leaves you free to take the same bag to work without carrying an oversized racquet-shaped duffle. We kept a dedicated sleeve for your laptop so choosing that daily carry doesn't require giving up its protected space.

What stands out

  • Separate laptop storage for work-and-court days.
  • A cooler and ventilated shoe storage in one backpack.
  • Room for a third racquet when you need a spare.
  • Restrained branding with a bright interior.

Trade-offs

  • Dedicated storage is unnecessary if you pack only a racquet and water.
  • The 9-inch published depth is worth checking against your preferred bag size.

What stands out about Vessel's approach

Its pocket closures and removable storage give you another way to pack.

Option two

Vessel PrimeX DXR Tennis Backpack

Best for players who prefer a technical finish and flexible storage

Vessel's diamond-pattern fabric gives its backpack a more visibly technical character. We prefer our quieter exterior, but that pattern will appeal if you want texture to be part of the design. Compare the whole silhouette with your own clothes and equipment; a close-up swatch tells only part of the story.

The packing decision matters more. Do you like opening a single small-item pocket during a changeover, or knowing that several belongings have separate homes? Would you actually remove a storage pouch between uses? Those answers tell you more about the right layout than the number of compartments on a feature list.

What stands out

  • A distinctive patterned exterior.
  • Storage that can be rearranged for different loads.

Trade-offs

  • Less racquet room than our Backpack V2.
  • Sold out on the official site at our September 15 check.

Materials should suit a bag you intend to use

We want you thinking about the next point, not protecting your bag's appearance.

Our 500D KODRA nylon shell has a PU coating, and we use YKK RC zippers. In the original Pro bag development, we evaluated materials against a rainy bike ride home and dragging a bag across a clay court. KODRA met those requirements while giving us the look we wanted. That history explains our choice; it doesn't establish a wear-test result against Vessel.

Be wary of judging durability from a photograph. A material can look refined and still be practical, while a technical pattern alone doesn't tell you how a finished bag will age. For our backpack, we'd rather give you the material specification and explain why we chose it than promise that every scuff will disappear.

We also back our bags with a ten-year limited warranty for functional failures during normal use, with exclusions. Cosmetic wear is different from a component that stops working. Read that distinction before treating any warranty term as a prediction of how your bag will look years later.

Choose the finish you enjoy, then use the bag. If keeping a bag visually pristine would stop you setting it down at practice, its appearance is asking too much of your routine.

Judge the layout during a changeover

Our cooler has a job before you ever hit a ball: it gives drinks and snacks their own insulated space. The separate toiletry pocket does the same for sunscreen. We kept the cooler when players asked for a more compact alternative to our original Pro bag, alongside ventilated storage for shoes and sweaty gear. Shrinking the bag couldn't mean dropping the features they were already using.

At the court, two fence hooks let you hang our backpack and reach into it. Later, the laptop stays in its own sleeve while the shoes return to their compartment. We designed that sequence into the bag so you don't have to unpack your work gear merely to put your tennis gear away.

  • Count the racquets you actually carry, including your spare.
  • Pack the computer and charger you bring on a normal workday.
  • Give used shoes and damp clothing a destination before the match.
  • Try reaching your drink and towel without emptying the main compartment.

This simple packing check is more useful than declaring a backpack better on court from its appearance. For us, performance means having the right item accessible when you need it. Your bag won't do the playing for you.

What should decide a $4.95 difference?

At the checked list prices, these backpacks cost almost the same. That makes their layout the sensible place to decide. Our Backpack V2 is the one we designed for a computer, up to three racquets and the gear that gets you through a long day. If those dedicated spaces solve your packing problems, the price difference is small compared with choosing a layout you'll fight every week.

Lay out tomorrow's work-and-tennis load before you order. If you want each part of that pile to have a place, look through the compartment photos of our Backpack V2. Pick the color you like after you've worked out where the shoes go.

FAQ

Which Vessel model is comparable to the ADV Backpack V2?
We used the PrimeX DXR Tennis Backpack listed in Vessel's current tennis-backpack collection. Older Baseline comparisons describe different products. Check the exact model name before applying a specification or review to the bag you're considering.
Which tennis backpack looks better?
We prefer the restrained branding and bright-inside, neutral-outside direction we developed from player feedback. Vessel offers a more visibly patterned look. Choose the one you enjoy carrying, but check the packed shape and compartment layout before deciding on appearance alone.
Can I use the ADV Backpack V2 for work as well as tennis?
Yes. We included a dedicated padded sleeve for a laptop up to 16 inches and separate spaces for your tennis gear. You can bring your computer and racquets together without treating the racquet compartment as an alternative laptop compartment.
Is the ADV Backpack V2 worth paying more for?
At the listed prices we checked, ours costs $4.95 more. Its value comes from using the dedicated work-and-tennis storage regularly. If your computer, shoes and refreshments all come along, we designed those spaces to help you carry the day in one bag.
